Women in Tango

Bringing Women in Tango to the Northern Rivers
Facilitated by tango & movement teacher:
Dana Parker — of Tango Butterfly

Women in Tango is a women’s only Tango class, designed for women by a woman to explore and expand the self through Tango.

I have a special place for women who feel frustrated by their experiences in social dancing scenes.  Especially where the desires to get good at a dance style feels halted by the absence of a regular male partner.  I’ve always found it sad when women give up, because they haven’t felt safe enough to ask for dances or to simply go to classes anyway.  Because Tango is such an interesting and fulfilling dance style, once you drop-in and explore it.  And it is ENTIRELY possible to explore this with other women dancers. ~ Dana.

Dancing Tango with women is a different experience for women, and can offer great insight into bio-mechanics of movement, interplay and energy.  It can remove the dynamic of romantic paradigms to unlock a more relaxed and embodied experience, for some.  If you’d like to peer into what this might look like, please enjoy the video below.

In this particular course, we will also offer sharing to reflect and share about our experience.  Giving both current and new-to-tango dancers an opportunity to connect and learn from other women.  This will be held in an energy aware container.

Dana has over a decade of experience leading AND following Tango, teaching and demonstrating both roles.  And enjoys the more subtle interplay that can evolve between two women dancing tango … She wishes to share this experience through guided tuition and exercises to enhance each person’s Tango abilities and experience.

Expect: full instruction on posture, mechanics of movement, tactile communication and style to empower your Tango. Tips and tricks for leading women that are not generally taught in a dual-sex class will be provided.

Practice time & sharing: free and open space to practice what you’ve learned in class, alongside conversation on how to navigate Tango in a social environment.
